I had the chance to study the awesome threejs library for a project. Allows you to implement 3d objects on the web and it's getting more and more performant. I recovered from the archive one of my old dear 3d models (left arm of a protocol droid with grail), I optimized the mesh in low-poly, baked the textures and converted the material shaders for webgl. The last step is pretty straightforward with Blender 3d. Isn't it awesome (and interactive) ?

Etruschi, equivoci, enigmi, esoterismo è il terzo libro di Lidia Orlandini edito da Innocenti Editore. Ne ho curato le illustrazioni e la copertina. Le illustrazioni più interessanti, quelle che più mi hanno affascinato, lavorandoci, sono Tuchulcha, Phersipnei e la tomba dei rilievi.

Dalla carta, all'ottone, alla carta di nuovo. Il lungo percorso di questo progetto grafico, attraverso tanti materiali diversi: carta, pixel, ottone, lamina d'oro, e infine, di nuovo sulla carta. Poi sul prodotto finito, una bottiglia color smeraldo piena di Olio Biologico Extravergine d'Oliva.

From hand drawing to the cgi still-life
This image is a preview for a label design concept. Advanced printing techniques involve typographic expansive techniques and materials, like specific papers, resins and golden foils. The cost for a single test print can be high. That's why I pre-visualizzed these drafts before the final approval. That's the best way to present the design work in the way I want, especially for shining materials and other effects.

After the final artwork, I love to manipulate things. In this case I really like both the variations, made on the "Roman ionic desk" illustration. The black & white version really turns it into the highest level of photo realism: a bit of overexposure, depth of field, film grain, dust and particles really obliterate the CGI technique transforming it into something so real.
To the opposite, wireframe version in the second shot tells so much about mesh geometry structure and 3d model quality. And, in this case remeshing process was quite a long work.

E' uscito il libro di Lidia Orlandini dedicato alla religione e alle tradizioni mitologiche degli Etruschi. Con le mie illustrazioni, compresa la copertina con la Velia Velcha, la donna più famosa dell'Etruria.
Il libro è un percorso romantico, ma documentato, sulle credenze religiose degli etruschi. Un tentativo di cogliere la personalità e le origini di un popolo forte e misterioso, dai lati insieme oscuri e vivaci, con tutte le loro divinità indigene, i rituali cerimoniali e i giochi ai quali si dedicavano tutte le classi sociali: donne emancipate, principi, aruspici, maghi e i primi di re di Roma.

Making the "Blender 3d infographic poster" or "All the Sailing in a poster", the goal was to design everything you need of a specific subject, in a single map. Better saying "everything you love". We wanted to create mindmap artboards, the perfect notes on a single sheet. An infographic poster both useful and beautiful.

Questa settimana, la notizia di uno scherzo realizzato da due ragazzi californiani (link) ha evocato uno dei miei film preferiti. Questi hanno abbandonato un paio di occhiali in una stanza vuota all'interno di un museo di arte moderna e il pubblico si è comportato come se l'oggetto fosse parte della collezione. Ed ho realizzato questa illustrazione a colori, un poster celebrativo e citazione del film commedia "Vacanze Intelligenti", diretto e interpretato da Albero Sordi con Anna Longo: racconta nel modo più vero ed esilarante il disagio di fronte all'aspettativa dell'opera d'arte, soprattutto quella moderna.

Che si tratti di fotografia o illustrazione l'emozione di toccare con mano la stampa finale è sempre ineguagliabile. E' il caso anche di questa copertina con l'illustrazione de la tomba delle sfingi realizzata qualche mese fa per il romanzo di De Vincenzi "Il segreto della Montagna Sacra", edito da Innocenti Editore.

Avete presente quando vi svegliate in spiaggia. Vi elevate dalla sabbia rovente; il sole è accecante, e barcollando in pensieri confusi guardate la sabbia, e i riflessi sul bagnasciuga. E tutto diventa blu.
Ho pubblicato questa ennesima gif animata, dedicata al mare. E tante altre nei giorni scorsi: il fiume ombrone in Toscana, un concerto folk, le onde dalla feritoia di una fortezza spagnola, una padella di pasta al pomodoro e basilico. Tutti frammenti visivi sospesi nel tempo: il regalo dell'immortalità ad un momento che si ripete indefinitivamente.

E' online da ieri e presentato alla fiera Eisenwarenmesse di Colonia Ten minutes: DIY and Garden un magazine online di informazione tecnica ed economica sulla produzione, distribuzione e marketing del DIY. Ne ho curato l'immagine grafica e progettato il layout seguendolo dalla nascita alla messa online. Quel che è nato è qualcosa di originale, realizzato dalla carta al codice. E integrato lato backend con il più diffuso e potente cms.
Non c'è niente di più gratificante che realizzare un portale di informazione: perchè lo si consegna nelle mani di qualcuno che lo fa vivere davvero, giorno dopo giorno. E questa, nonostante tutte le belle parole, promesse e magie del web-marketing, è la prima vera regola del Seo. Un sito web funziona quando lo si vive quotidianamente, e se una redazione lo adotta si è sicuri che quel lavoro è gia in buone mani.

Logo Ten. Ten minutes: DIY and Garden. E' la sagoma di un tavolo da lavoro con una tazza di caffè. Il simbolo dei pomeriggi in officina, laboratorio, ufficio o anche in garage: ognuno con i suoi strumenti di lavoro. Il caffè è un alibi stimolante che incrementa idee e produttività. Il quadrato è un elemento ricorrente in tutto il design che da regolarità e modularità ad un intero layout web.

Le Peschiere di Manciano is a meeting place and a workshop. Every corner of this old house, which is founded on the ruins of an ancient monastery, are designed to host different activities: the small amphitheater, the laboratory, the studio, a space hall, a large kitchen, the tree house, the park and the veranda. Many focus points scattered on a hill surrounded by oaks: a green circular border that makes it a magical small world in the heart of Tuscany.

After the success of the Blender infographic I'm working on another poster infographic illustration. The idea is the same: resuming "all the knowledge in one single sheet". Sometime ago I did it with my "Roman architecture" lesson notes, and the result was huge. This time the subject is sailing: the goal is to fill all the school theory from wind names to gaits, directions, precedences, knots, boat parts, principles, codes, flags and rhum. Something like a bible-map for sailors: all the informations and concepts I can represent, explained and illustrated in the best possible way.
